Result of the Red Dragon Team Competition

We were not able to calculate the result of the Red Dragon Team Competition on Sunday because two or three combinations were still out on course when the prize giving took place.

The result of the Team Competition was as follows:

1st: The Oakleaze Farm Dragons (Louise Rich, Sue Rich, Katie Bedwin and Lauren Mills) with 1,611 points.

2nd: The Horse and Pony Nuts (Sue Higgins, Annie Inges, Julie Kendal and Claire Pilkington) with 543 points.

3rd: The Grangeway Mafia (Alex Nicholls, Anita Gordon, Beti Gordon and Eileen Hackett) with 428 points.

Follow Red Dragon on Twitter

We are now only a three days away from the start of The British Horse Feeds Red Dragon for 2011.  We are hosts to the Home International and Celtic Challenge competitions and so welcome teams of 12 riders and horses from the four home nations.  We have 22 entries for the 2 day 160km Endurance Ride which is the largest and most competitive for some time.  The 80km ER also has a large entry of 32 combinations.  All this is supported by an excellent entry for all the other classes, with over 30 competitors in the Dragon's Egg class.

We have full internet access at the ride for the first time this year.  As a result we will tweet as many updates as we are able to keep you all up to date with the progress of the main classes, especially the two ER classes and of course the Home International.  We hope to start the "tweeting" service on Friday, so keep an eye on the Twitter button on the EGB home page.

If you have any questions about the British Horse Feeds Red Dragon then please do Contact Us.  The organisers will be more than happy to answer any question, give advice or just have a chat about the event.

Title Sponsor

The organisers are pleased to announce that British Horse Feeds are continuing their long association with the Red Dragon but now as Title Sponsor.  Simon Parker, Sales and Marketing Manager for British Horse Feeds said “I am so pleased that we have been able to continue our involvement with this prestigious ride, especially as this year we are hosts to the Home International”.

British Horse Feeds is the new name for the company that supplies Speedi-Beet, Fibre-Beet and now, a range of brand new equine feeds: Natural Country. The original Horse & Pony and Natural Country Cool 'n' Calm Feeds are joined by specialist mixes for older horses and horses in competition. They are also one of the first feed manufacturers to commit to a new feed code to reduce the risk of naturally occurring prohibited substances (NOPS) in equine feeds.

Entry Deadlines

This is a polite reminder to all those who wish to compete at The British Horse Feeds Red Dragon this year that postal entries will close on Monday 12 September (postmarked).  However, online late entries will be accepted until MIDDAY on Friday 16 September (please note the midday bit).  The Organisers and Entries Secretary are taking this approach so that we can administer all the entries in time to be able to send out all the information packs on Tuesday 20 September.  In turn this means you will all receive your pack by the weekend BEFORE the event, giving you plenty of time to digest the information and plan your weekend in Wales with your crews and supporters.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation in submitting your entries on time - and please spread the word to your friends who might not look at this website!

Home International and Celtic Challenge

The British Horse Feeds Red Dragon is proud to be the host of the Home International and Celtic Challenge competitions in 2011.  The rules for the two competitions can be found on the Special Classes page (scroll down to the bottom).  We are expecting the teams to parade during the afternoon of Friday 30th September prior to the initial vetting for the Saturday classes.  Further information about the two competitions will be posted during August and September - see Stop Press for further details.

Two New Classes

The organisers are pleased to confirm that there will be two new classes over and above those shown in the Schedule printed in the Members’ Handbook for 2011.  Classes 24 will be a 62km CR on Saturday 1st October, whilst Class 25 will be a 62km CR on Sunday 2nd October.  Both classes will be the subject of a single on course mid-ride vet gate at 40km at Erwood.

Finally we welcome back Saddle Exchange to the event, after an absence of a few years.  We are pleased to confirm that Saddle Exchange has agreed to sponsor the Dragon's Days class.

27th July 2011: Discount for B&B

There is a discount of £3 per day on the stabling fee for those of you who wish to stable your horse at the venue but with nobody staying at the venue overnight.  In this case you must provide the name and telephone number of your accommodation and an emergency contact number in the relevant boxes on the special entry form that can be downloaded from this website - or by providing this information under Section 9 of the online entry form.

21st July 2011: Clarification of Rules for the Special Classes

See Special Classes for the details of the Special Classes.  Note that all the Special Classes are run as separate classes on each day and are recorded on the Mastercard as separate classes.  This means that, for example, in the Dragon's Days (see Special Classes) a combination can pass the first two individual classes (on Friday and Saturday) and fail the third (on Sunday), but still have the distance and trophy points attributed to them for the first two.  However the combination must pass all three classes to be eligible for the Dragon's Days competition.
